Transaction Intelligence: payment intelligence that decides the reward inside the payment

Resources · Concept

Transaction Intelligence is the ability to use the signals of a live transaction —who is paying, what, where and how— together with the customer's context and loyalty state, to decide and apply the next best action before the payment completes, and to record its economic effect. Unlike transaction analytics, it acts during the payment, not after it. Qurable applies this payment intelligence to points, cashback and discounts inside the payment authorization, in ~150 ms.

Banks and fintechs, in production

Our banking and fintech clients already deliver cashback at payment with Qurable.

Pomelo, Santander Peru, Banisi and Konfío, among others. With Pomelo, banks, fintechs and companies that issue cards turn on loyalty and cashback without a separate technical project.

Key takeaways

  1. Transaction Intelligence acts while the payment is being authorized; transaction analytics explains payments that already closed.
  2. The decision combines payment signals, customer profile, balance and campaign, within the business's own rules.
  3. On Qurable, one profile, one rule set and one ledger decide the benefit in ~150 ms.

The difference

Analyze the transaction afterwards or act inside it.

Transaction analytics explains what already happened: it enriches, monitors or compares completed payments. Transaction Intelligence decides and applies an action while the payment is still being authorized.

How it works

Signals, decision and controls.

Transaction Intelligence combines four kinds of signal, decides within the business rules and records every effect. All of it happens while the payment is authorized.

  • The transaction

Merchant, channel, amount and payment method, as sent by the POS, the processor or the checkout.

  • The customer

Their profile: identifiers, purchase and redemption history, tier and audiences.

  • Their loyalty state

Balance, point batches with their expiration and active rewards.

  • The campaign context

Rules, priorities, available budget and exclusion groups.

  • Points

How many and from which program, including a partner's.

  • Cashback

From the bank, the merchant or co-funded by both.

  • Pay with points

Part or all of the payment, with hold and reversal.

  • The best promotion

From the basket and the payment method, the best available promotion for that purchase.

  • A reward for the purchase

A reward for the transaction, on the purchase confirmation screen.

  • Upselling on confirmation

A product chosen for that customer, based on what they just bought.

  • The next action

A message or a journey that follows the purchase.

  • On the same record

Every reward lands on the ledger, with its cost and who funds it.

  • Within your rules

Caps, budgets and exclusions the AI cannot override.

  • With human approval

Nothing that affects customers goes live without approval.

  • With a trace

Every decision keeps what came in, what matched and what was applied.

  • Without stopping the sale

If the service does not respond, the payment still goes through; redemption does require a connection.

By industry

Transaction Intelligence in every industry.

The same logic —signal, decision and record— changes with where the customer pays.

  • Banks and fintechs

    Cashback inside the authorization

The bank decides the cashback on each card purchase, and the participating merchant can co-fund it.

  • Fuel retail

The reward in the same fill-up

The customer identifies themselves at the register and the discount or points are applied before the receipt closes.

The sale is never blocked if the service does not respond.
  • Airlines

    Partner miles, right away

Every partner purchase earns miles instantly and is recorded with its contribution.

  • Restaurants and QSR

    The reward before the receipt

The rule picks which reward fits each guest based on their frequency and ticket.

  • Retail and fashion

Points and split payment at checkout

Online, the customer pays part with points and part with another method.

    Scope
In web and app checkout; not at the POS.
  • Casinos and gaming

    A reward for every visit

With the member identified at the cashier, the machine or the app, the reward for that visit is chosen: points, a game with a prize or an offer to come back.

Why now

What makes it possible to decide inside the payment.

Four infrastructure shifts make it possible to decide in milliseconds and record the decision with financial control.

  • Payments with APIs

Processors, issuers and checkouts expose the transaction in real time, before it closes.

  • Profiles ready in milliseconds

The customer's profile can be read while they pay: in Qurable, in under 50 ms.

  • AI that works within rules

AI builds campaigns and picks rewards without breaking caps or human approval.

  • Double-entry ledgers

Every reward is recorded as a movement, with its cost and its liability.

With Qurable

Transaction Intelligence in a loyalty and engagement platform.

In Qurable, Transaction Intelligence is what the loyalty and engagement platform does on every payment: the same profile, the same rules and the same ledger decide the reward in ~150 ms.

  • At the POS, processor and checkout

The reward is applied inside the authorization and follows the payment cycle: authorize, capture and reverse.

  • AI Decisioning

  • Member data

FAQ

What people ask about Transaction Intelligence.

Short answers for loyalty, payments, technology and finance teams.

It's the ability to use the signals of a live transaction, together with the customer's context and loyalty state, to decide and apply the next best action before the payment completes, and to record its economic effect.

The term is also used for enriching payment data, monitoring risk or analyzing completed transactions. Those uses explain the transaction afterwards. In loyalty, Transaction Intelligence acts during the transaction: it decides and applies a reward while the payment is authorized.

Yes. Qurable is a loyalty platform that applies transaction intelligence inside the payment: it matches the transaction with the customer's profile, balance and campaign rules, and decides points, cashback or a discount in ~150 ms. It is live with Pomelo, Santander Peru, Banisi and Konfío, merchants can co-fund each campaign with their share recorded, and it has live programs in more than 6 Latin American markets.

The POS, processor or checkout sends the transaction; the platform reads the customer's profile, balance and the campaign rules; it decides the reward and applies it in the same payment. In Qurable the full decision takes ~150 ms and is recorded on a double-entry ledger.

Transaction data (merchant, channel, amount, payment method), the customer's profile (identifiers, history, tier, audiences), their loyalty state (balance, batches, expirations) and each campaign's context (rules, budget, exclusions).

It's the way to run the program inside the payment. Points, cashback, discounts and paying with points are decided for each customer in the moment instead of being calculated in batch after the purchase.

No. The CDP and the CRM keep managing data and campaigns. Transaction Intelligence uses the customer's profile at the moment of payment, and Qurable integrates with the existing CRM and marketing stack.

Yes, within limits: the AI picks the reward while respecting rules, caps and budgets; nothing that affects customers goes live without human approval, and every decision keeps its trace. If the service does not respond, the sale is not blocked.

The numbers that show whether a reward was worth its cost: cost per reward, the bank's and the merchant's share, real-time liability, reversed returns and the trace of every decision. Incrementality is measured against a control group designed in the pilot.
